Frozen Alaska Pollock Milt Imports Surge by 104% in December 2024

In December 2024, the import volume of Frozen Alaska Pollock Milt reached 349 tons, reflecting a significant 104% increase compared to the 171 tons imported during the same period in 2023.
However, the cumulative import volume for the entire year totaled 10,124 tons, representing a slight 3% decrease from 10,437 tons in 2023. Despite the surge in December, Frozen Alaska Pollock Milt made up only 1.1% of total seafood imports, which amounted to 901,242 tons.

By December, the vast majority of Frozen Alaska Pollock Milt imports came from Russia, accounting for 96% of the total, or 9,668 tons. The remaining 456 tons were sourced from the United States. The import prices for Russian and U.S. products were reported at USD 2.31 per kilogram and USD 2.29 per kilogram, respectively.
The import value of Frozen Alaska Pollock Milt in December 2024 was USD 840,000, marking a 41% increase from USD 590,000 during the same month in the previous year. However, the total import value for the year stood at USD 23.33 million, a 39% decline from USD 38.32 million in 2023. The average import price for the year was USD 2.30 per kilogram, reflecting a 37% drop from USD 3.67 per kilogram in the previous year.

While December’s import market for Frozen Alaska Pollock Milt showed notable short-term growth, the overall yearly volume and value reflect a decline, highlighting market volatility. Russian-origin products remain the dominant source, and the sharp decrease in average import prices is a noteworthy trend for the industry.
As a point of reference, the domestic wholesale price for Frozen Alaska Pollock Milt is approximately KRW 84,000 per 22.5 kg for Russian-origin products.
