Anchovy fishery ban in the Bosphorus and Black Sea

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli signaled that the 10-day anchovy fishing ban in the Bosphorus and Black Sea would be extended. Anchovy fishery was partially stopped by the General Directorate of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Anchovy fishery Ban May Extend

Minister Pakdemirli, who came together with the Board of Directors of the Association of Economic Correspondents (EMD), follows that anchovies are much smaller than they should be. One of the main reasons for the small size of anchovies is environmental and climatic factors. We follow the process. The ban on fishery could gradually extend for 10 days, if not enough, for another 10 days.The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry started to support 5 lira per tail to catch the puffer fish, which is an invasive species recently. Approximately 50 thousand puffer fish were caught in a month. The support paid is 230 thousand lira. The application was successful. In particular, around 50 thousand of the most toxic and dangerous individuals, moreover, were collected. This fishery allowed other fish to survive. Increasing the scope of support for puffer and planning to cover other species are also on the agenda. There are 9 types of puffer fish. The first catch was for the rootstock puffer fish, now support will be given to catchers of other small species of puffer fish.

Why Anchovy Fishery Was Banned

As a result of the observations and inspections made and the monitoring studies carried out by the research institutions, it was determined that there was an increase in the ratio of individuals below the legal catch length in the Bosphorus and the Black Sea, and the meat yields were quite low.
