On December 6, 2025, the Inaugural Meeting of the Crab Industry Branch and the First General Meeting of its First Members were successfully convened in Sanmen County. The event saw the attendance of key figures, including Cui Lifeng, President of the China Fisheries Association, and Li Shengli, Executive Vice President and Secretary-General. Industry experts and members from across the nation's crab farming, processing, and distribution sectors gathered to discuss the path forward. The meeting was chaired by Guan Yibo, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Fisheries Association.

President Cui Lifeng
Vision for Industry Transformation
President Cui Lifeng emphasized that while China's mud crab industry has seen continuous expansion, it faces challenges such as a shortage of high-quality breeding stock, frequent disease outbreaks, weak deep processing capabilities, and lagging brand building. He stressed that the branch’s establishment is crucial for promoting the industry's transformation from "scale expansion" to "quality leap" and "value enhancement."
He laid out three key expectations for the new branch:
-
Strengthen Self-Construction: Build an efficient exchange platform, promote information sharing, and enhance the branch's cohesion and influence.
-
Adhere to a Problem-Oriented Approach: Focus on key pain points across the entire industry chain, prioritizing seed industry revitalization, ecological breeding, technological innovation, and brand market expansion.
-
Deepen Industry Collaboration: Strengthen vertical and horizontal linkages to extend the industry chain, enhance the value chain, and promote the deep integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries.

Deputy County Head Dai Tingxi
Sanmen as the Secretariat Hub
Deputy County Head Dai Tingxi congratulated the branch, highlighting Sanmen's rich mud crab farming history, which dates back to the Southern Song Dynasty. He noted the "Sanmen Mud Crab" brand value has reached an impressive 4.881 billion yuan. He confirmed that the establishment of the branch secretariat in Sanmen is a recognition of the local industry’s status, and the county will provide utmost support, build a professional service center, and jointly create a seed industry innovation platform.

First Council and Leadership Elected
The General Meeting of Members approved foundational documents and elected the first council. The leadership team was subsequently determined:

The conference also appointed 11 authoritative experts, including researcher Chen Jun from the Fisheries Machinery and Instrument Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, and professors like Li Daoliang of China Agricultural University, and He Jianguo of Sun Yat-sen University. Three individuals, including Chen Shujian of the Marine College of Ningbo University, were named Deputy Secretaries-General.

Future Work Focus
Newly elected President Wang Chunlin committed to transforming the industry from "small, scattered, and weak" to "large, superior, and strong." The branch will focus on:
-
Serving as a bridge between the industry and government.
-
Building a development community and providing comprehensive services in policy, technology, market, and financing.
-
Establishing a full-industry chain standard system and creating distinctive crab brands.

Secretary-General Shi Ce
Secretary-General Shi Ce pledged that the secretariat would act as an efficient service hub, focus on implementing technologies to solve industry bottlenecks, and collaboratively advance brand building and market cultivation.
The establishment of the Crab Industry Branch is set to be a "booster" for industry development, a "think tank" for government decision-making, and a "close confidant" for member companies, ushering in a new era for China’s crab industry modernization.
