July sees a massive boost in value for shellfish, driven by strong international demand and strategic market growth in the U.S. and China.
Growth for king crab
- Norway exported 188 tonnes of King Crab (Centolla) with a value of 118 million NOK (approx. $11.24M) in July.
- The total value increased by 37 million NOK (approx. $3.52M), or 46%, compared to the same month last year, which represents a volume growth of 11%.
- The United States, Canada, and the Hong Kong SAR were the largest markets for King Crab in July.

The U.S. experienced the greatest growth in value, with an export increase of 57 million NOK (approx. $5.43M), or 238%, compared to the same month last year. The export volume to the U.S. reached 116 tonnes, which is 161% higher than in July of the previous year.
In July, 91 tonnes of live King Crab were exported with a value of 43.9 million NOK (approx. $4.18M). This represents a 42% decrease in volume and a 38% decrease in value.
97 tonnes of frozen King Crab were exported with a value of 74.3 million NOK (approx. $7.07M).
Strong July for snow crab
- Norway exported 630 tonnes of snow crab with a value of 112 million NOK (approx. $10.67M) in July.

The U.S. had the highest growth in value, with an export increase of 60 million NOK (approx. $5.71M) compared to the same month last year. The export volume to the U.S. reached 321 tonnes.
Last year, almost all snow crab was caught in the first quarter, which resulted in a very low export volume in July. Thanks to this year's new quota regulations, significant volumes have also been caught in the second quarter, which contributed to an increase in exports in recent months.
Increase in value and decrease in volume for coldwater prawn
- Norway exported 3,482 tonnes of coldwater prawns with a value of 183 million NOK (approx. $17.43M) in July.
- Although the volume fell by 12%, the value increased by 35 million NOK (approx. $3.33M)
- 24%, compared to the same month last year.
