Galicia and Cape Verde strengthen fisheries ties

The Undersecretariat of Marine Affairs of Galicia and the Government of Cape Verde pledged to strengthen commercial and fisheries ties.
The Director General of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Technological Innovation of Galicia, Juan Maneiro, met with Minister of Economy and Employment of the Government of Cape Verde, José da Silva Gonçalves, as part of their visit to the Cape Verdean island of San Vicente due to the edition of Expomar Fair.
As part of the meeting, both officials discussed the development of the memorandum of understanding signed by the Xunta and the Cape Verdean government earlier this year to relaunch a permanent collaboration in areas such as fisheries.
One of the objectives this memorandum has is the cooperation in the fisheries sector, encouraging the use of fishing and port infrastructure, valuing the skilled labour force from Cape Verde and including the possibility of developing vocational training in the area.
In addition, at the meeting other questions addressed were logistics issues that would benefit the Galician fleet operating in the country. Besides, issues that have to do with staff training and improving the capabilities of Galician companies settled down in Cape Verde were discussed.
Maneiro took advantage of the meeting to invite the African minister to visit Galicia to know the Galician fishing sector as a whole, but especially the Galician port sector management and marketing system for fresh fish at auction.
In Cape Verde, Maneiro visited the national fuel company Enacol and Ribeira A Poutada company, based in the African country.
He could also see almost fully cold storage operational facilities Mindelo, of the business group Atunlo. This treatment, freezing and conservation infrastructure of fishery products serves as a strategic distribution logistics platform of fish products to all the fleets fishing in the Atlantic Ocean in general and to the Galician sector in particular, especially for the surface purse seine freezer tuna longline sector of great importance in the area.
Maneiro also visited the facilities of Enapor public body, the body that manages the ports of this country and that is interested in learning about Galician port management system.
Finally, Maneiro and Minister Silva Gonçalves made a tour of the 10 companies and Galician institutions of the fisheries sector that were promoted at the stand of the Undersecretariat of Marine Fisheries in the Expomar fair to support the maritime fishing sector of Galicia in the search for new markets and business contacts.
