The company Qatar Airways Cargo has launched new freighter services to New York (JFK) and Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada), which will handle lobster and other seafood from these two cities to Europe, the Middle East, South and North East Asia via Doha.
Services to New York and Halifax are scheduled with a frequency of one flight per week every Wednesday from Luxembourg, its new European hub, operated with a Boeing 777-200 freighter that offers 103 tonnes of cargo capacity, The Stat Trade Times informed.
Ulrich Ogiermann, chief officer cargo, Qatar Airways, said, “From their strategic geographical positions, not only will the new service provide our customers with great access to the Americas’ marketplace, it will allow us to share one of region’s most sumptuous exports with the world.”
The news was welcomed by Canadian seafood exporters. Nevertheless, the sector stresses that this new service by Qatar, together with Korean Air Cargo’s additional second weekly flight out of Halifax to South Korea are still not enough airlift capacity during peak times, The Chronicle Herald reported.
Qatar Airways Cargo's portfolio of distinctive products currently includes QR Pharma, QR Fresh, QR Live and QR Express offering efficiency and compliance in the handling of temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and perishable cargo, transportation of live animals as well as time-critical shipments.
