The Gobernment of Campeche is trying to attract investors from the United States who are interested in shrimp farming in the state in order to increase production of this crustacean.
According to the head of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Secretariat (SEPESCA) of Campeche, Fernando Sadek Abad, Campeche is one of the safest states in Mexico to carry out investments and develop shrimp farming, reported Notimex.
Campeche has all the weather, water quality and technological conditions for the development of the shrimp industry, making it possible to double the production of the 774 tonnes obtained in 2013.
Sadek Abad met with American investors from Cairwood Incorporated and with authorities of Empacadora Sea Farms, who were informed of the benefits of the state of Campeche in an attempt to generate future investments in shrimp farming.
Given the productivity of this Mexican region, units in Boxol, Seybaplaya, Champotón, and Chulbac farm, in Chiná, Campeche were reactivated, with which it is expected to increase production, reported Sipse.
"Our purpose is that the creation of new jobs helps to benefit the inhabitants of nearby communities," said Sadek Abad at the meeting, which was accompanied by the deputy representative of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA), José Luis Moreno Gómez.
SEPESCA head noted that aquaculture production has increased from 550 to 774 tonnes, that is to say, 41 per cent more, since the current administration took office in 2009.
The aquaculture industry in Campeche also produces tilapia and sea cucumber.
