Landes workers value contribution of salmon processing in Talcahuano
The Landes fishing company, in Talcahuano, Biobío Region, transported, landed, brought to the plant and processed, for flour and oil; several tons of dead salmon in feedlots in the south of the country. This, in a fast professional work, careful with people and the environment. This was highlighted by Landes workers, from the Fleet sector, through the president of the Inter-company Union of Captains, Juan Carlos González.
The leader stressed that, as workers, of one of the many industries that are part of the development and life of choreros (in this case fishing), "we express our joy and congratulate the ability to reinvent and innovate, in the face of such adverse scenarios as the that we have had to face, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, reductions in catch quotas, legislative changes that have caused the paralysis of boats, layoffs ".
This, he pointed out, after an alert was generated regarding the arrival of the aforementioned salmon, at the Landes facilities. "There were some officials who expressed apprehensions with phrases such as 'Talcahuano is not a garbage dump' or that contamination was being transported to our expense; from opinions that were blind and lacking real information on the protocols by which this work activity is accompanied. Our manager explained very well how the maritime, health, environmental and cargo control authorities supervised the entire process, communicating their maximum satisfaction with the operation in question, clarifying and reassuring the community regarding legitimate apprehensions, in the face of the threat to the quality of life and the balance of the environment of our commune."
Work and quality of life
González added that: "Today is Landes, the oldest fishery in Talcahuano, the one that did not emigrate to another commune when stricter environmental measures were justifiably demanded in close tune with the quality of life in the commune, which was reinvented with a tremendous alternative for economic development and has generated growth and innovated to generate more formal jobs throughout the year in our commune, rehiring workers who were fired by the cuttlefish law in processes permanently supervised by government entities regarding the quality and safety ".
He added that, as residents of the commune, for generations most of them fully agree that "Talcahuano is not a garbage dump" but the city in which they grew up, live, work, raise their children and are aware that their Families are in it and want the activities to be carried out in the light of day, in a transparent and lawful way, and call for communication and good sense from those who are interested in knowing and representing them. The trade union organizations, he concluded, will always defend the interests of workers and among them is the quality of life at work and the environment in which they live.
He reproached that uninformed actions do not help but damage the entrepreneurship that is necessary to generate quality jobs, in difficult times, complicated healthily and politically.
The instability that exists in these aspects is fought with weapons such as innovation, job creation, social security, which is why our call as workers in the Talcahuano fishing industry we call for the current as future authorities, to empower and highlight the positive things for the well-being of our commune.
