The Ministry of Production (Produce) indicated that as of today, the second season of anchovy fishing is suspended for ten days in the maritime area from Chancay to Cañete.
"In this way, it seeks to contribute to the conservation and sustainability of the anchovy resource," he stressed.
The suspension of the anchovy and white anchovy resources is established after the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe) detected a higher incidence of juvenile resources, whose sizes fluctuated between 8 cm and 17.5 cm in total length.
This prohibition is important because it is necessary to preserve the juvenile resource and avoid its capture during extractive activities, therefore, protection and observation measures are being adopted between Pisco and Bahía Independencia.
As is known, the second fishing season in the north central zone of the country will be extended until reaching the maximum total allowable catch limit of 2 million 780,000 tons of anchovy for indirect human consumption.
For this, Imarpe will carry out the monitoring and follow-up of the main biological, population and fishery indicators of the anchovy and white anchovy resource, and shall inform and promptly recommend the fisheries management measures to the Ministry of Production.
