Singapore company aims to close the gap on animal protein products
A cell-cultivated fish fat that makes alternative meat and fish taste more like the real thing has been unveiled to potential investors at an event in Singapore.
ImpacFat held a tasting session at a demonstration day hosted by Big Idea Ventures, a business accelerator for innovative companies working on plant-based and cell-based foods as well as ingredients and technologies to help build the alternative food ecosystem.

TEHRAN - The value of Iran’s fishery export has risen 35 percent in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-December 21, 2022), compared to the same period of time in the past year, according to the secretary of the Aquatics Production and Trade Union of Iran.
According to Ali-Akbar Khodaei, the nine-month fishery export was also 20 percent more than the last year’s figure in terms of weight, IRIB reported.
The official put the total fishery exports in the previous year at 151,000 tons.
Iran’s caviar export, however, has decreased significantly due to the lack of demand in global markets, Khodaei said.
Iranian caviar is mainly exported to European countries, and Arab neighbors including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, and Oman.
The price of a McDonald's Fillet-O-Fish has raised as much as 23.4 per cent since last year, according to calculations by Stomper Shy Apple.

The Seafood Algternative project is developing algae-based fish substitutes with support from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund. As reported by DG-Mare, the project team has been working since 2021 to convert the colours, flavors and textures of algae into an alternative to animal protein. The scope of application in this case is very wide; in fact, they have managed to produce everything from alternatives to smoked salmon and canned tuna, to taramosalata, a typical dish from Greece and Turkey whose main element is fish roe.
One of the successes of the project lies in the perfect combination between the algae and the finished products. This initiative "is definitely part of the 'algae revolution'," says DG-Mare.

New School Foods, which makes a plant-based salmon alternative, has raised $12 million in seed funding to expand its team of food scientists, scale up the “scaffolding” technology it uses to create the product, and build out a research and pilot production facility.
The Toronto-based company hopes to have its product in restaurants next year.

Norway exported NOK 12.7 billion worth of seafood in January, up by 23% on the year, largely helped by the price growth in exports. January was the seventeenth month in a row with seafood exports exceeding NOK 10 billion.
Price growth is the most important reason why January was another record month for seafood exports. The export prices for salmon, cod, trout, pollock and herring were significantly higher than in January 2022
