Nueva Pescanova’s workers to go on strike

Over 300 workers of the Nueva Pescanova Group rejected the latest proposal made by the company’s management in the negotiation of the collective agreement and agreed to carry out two days’ strike.
The measure will be held on March 14 and 21, and will be transformed into an indefinite strike from April 3, if by that date the firm does not accept the demands from the unions and presents a proposed ‘worthy' deal.
The trade union spokesmen explained that they oppose the so-called "flexibility" of working hours and of recruitment proposed by management, which seeks to implement a "double wage scale" between the current employees and the new additions to the workforce, with differences of up to 40 per cent, reported EFE news agency.
Since March 2016, Nueva Pescanova group has been negotiating the new agreements at the centres of Arteixo, Chapela, Porriño, in the cold storage centre Chapela/Porriño and in the back-office centres in Chapela owned by Pescanova España, Nueva Pescanova and Novapesca Trading.
After the creditors' meeting and after the merger and double segregation into Pescanova España and Nueva Pescanova, such centres remained without collective agreement.
The management of the Galician multinational firm has warned that if an agreement is not reached, the workers of these companies will be governed by the collective agreement of sea products manufactured with freezing and refrigeration processes, where they are not recognized due to their time length or the level increases.
It has also ensured that if an agreement is reached in the negotiation of the agreements, a "stable employment plan" is foreseen, with the aim of generating about 80 new jobs in the next three years between industrial centres and offices.
