Unions of Nueva Pescanova reject labour agreement proposal
(SPAIN, 1/21/2017)
The union delegates of processing plants and refrigerators of Nueva Pescanova group have warned that they will not sign the proposal of agreement raised by the company, because it makes uncertain the labour conditions of the workers.
In a press conference held on Wednesday, representatives of the UGT, CIG, CUT and USO unions at the group centres in Chapela, O Porriño and Arteixo, as well as in Insuíña, convened an assembly to be held this Saturday in Redondela (Pontevedra), to agree on responses and mobilizations.
For its part, CC.OO., which is the majority union in the company, advances its intention to call all unions to plan pressure measures.
According to the trade union organizations, Pescanova's intention is that the signed agreements have a duration of five years (2016-2020) and establish new labour categories that qualify as "third world" ones.
Trade unionists say that the company is proposing "a dramatic reduction" in its conditions, which will mean "working longer hours and earning less". Specifically, they point out that the company proposes to lower wages, increase working hours - between 12 and 16 hours a year - and increment day flexibility from Monday to Sunday.
The negotiation of the collective agreement started several months ago but at the moment "it is paralyzed", according to the trade unionists.
Meanwhile, the management of Nueva Pescanova group issued a communication in which it stressed that it maintains its "negotiating and dialogue will adopted from the outset" in order to reach a satisfactory agreement for both parties.
