The Sira-Cook™ Supreme™ bag can be used in a conventional oven or on a griddle, hot-plate or barbecue/BBQ.

From ‘Sea to Plate’: Sirane’s Seafood Packaging Range

  (UNITED KINGDOM, 1/8/2020)

Packaging solutions ‘from sea to plate’ will be the Sirane message in Bremen next month, when the company exhibits at the popular Fish International trade show.

Sirane has food packaging ranges that cover the whole seafood journey, from liners and mats for crate of fresh fish, right through to microwaveable ready-cook packaging. The company will also be introducing sustainable packaging from its Earth Packaging range.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director, said: “Sirane’s expertise in absorbency, oven and microwave-ready packaging materials and shelf-life means that wherever you fit within the supply chain, we are a company that has products perfect for you.

“From sea to plate and everywhere in between… whether you are catching and processing the fish, or selling it as a retailer, Sirane’s range of packaging solutions can make a huge difference, whether to shelf-life, product presentation or even profitability.

“Whether it’s absorbency for the fresh catch straight from the boat, or a steam-cooking bag for over-the-counter retail sales of fish food, Sirane has the answers in our range.”

Dri-Fresh® Sea-Fresh™ absorbent liners pads and mats are designed to quickly and effectively absorb the melting ice and juices released during fish transportation. The liquid is absorbed and trapped inside the liner to prevent spillage and reduce odour. The transport crate remains cold, clean and dry to optimise the condition and appearance of the fish.

Sirane's two most recent product launches for the seafood industry have been Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh SP – an absorbent crate liner with excellent wet-strength and which uses no adhesives – and Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh Ice-Mats, mats which can be used to cover live seafood and maintain a steady release of fresh water to help optimise its condition.

Perfect for crustaceans, such as lobster and crab, the product remains chilled under the Ice-Mat, and the water’s staggered release means the product remains in a premium condition.

Sirane’s Dri-Fresh Sea-Fresh range of absorbent liners – Sea-Fresh SP being the newest addition - quickly and effectively absorbs the melting ice and juices released during transportation. The liquid is absorbed and trapped inside the Sea-Fresh liner to prevent spillage and reduce odour – increasing the saleability of the seafood.

Other innovative solution including microwave cooking bags, barbecue bags, and nylon that can be flow-wrapped will be on show at the Fish International in Bremen.

Dri-Fresh® Sea-Fresh Ice-Mats are soaked in saltwater and then frozen. Once frozen, they are laid over the crates containing live seafood - during transportation the mat will slowly release the water, helping maintain freshness.

Jeremy Haydn-Davies, sales director for food packaging, said: “Our barbecue bag is perfect for seafood. The Sira-Cook Supreme bag is also ovenable – which might be a distinct advantage with the unreliable British climate – and allows a product with the sauce to be thrown on the barbecue. It’s a simple solution, offering stunning taste.

“Our bag comes with a non-stick layer, meaning the fish won’t stick to the bag. We can even perforate the layer and add flavours below, that permeate during cooking.

“Anyone involved in seafood and who is looking to add genuine value to their products should come and see us at our stand in Bremen and find out what we can offer.

The bag is available in a number of sizes – including a large bag big enough to take a whole salmon - and in a standard and non-stick version perfect for seafood. It comes with a clear top panel – so users can see what’s being cooked – and the bag can be heat-sealed.

Dri-Fresh® Fresh-Hold™ ABM absorbent pads for fish & seafood combine effective absorbency with integrated anti-bacterial/microbial properties, using a new technology based on a blend of natural fruit extracts, for the ultimate protection.

Steam-cooking bags are also a popular product in the seafood sector. Bags can be provided in a range of formats, including self-seal, multi-compartment and stand-up, as well as in a range of colours. Sirane can also custom print/custom brand the bags.

Sustainable packaging solutions in the Earth Packaging range include plastic-free pouch Earthpouch, plastic-free film Earthfilm, paper-based absorbent pad Earthpad and recyclable plastic films.

Mark Lingard, Marketing Manager, said: “Sirane’s Earth Packaging range is focused on developing sustainable, recyclable packaging solutions. They include paper-based solutions (plastic-free) and easily-recyclable mono-layer plastic solutions.”

Sirane also offers thermally-insulated products, including standard bags and anti-microbial bags- which are recyclable, and can also be custom printed/branded as required.

Fish International is held in Bremen every two years and sees 300 exhibitors and 12,000 visitors from across the industry. It runs from February 9-11. Sirane will be at stand D54.

Sirane's Earthboard Resolve Smoked Salmon Boards are perfect for enhancing the appearance of sales. Earthboard Resolve Smoked Salmon Boards are available in a range of colours.
