This report focuses on catch volumes of tuna, shark and swordfish in Japanese and European Union waters. It also highlights prices, inventories, markets, imports and exports of species detailed in the following index.
1. ASIA
1.1 Japan
Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus)
Prices
The average price of Japanese frozen bigeye imports in June reported JPY 717/kg, down 1% on that of the previous month and similar to that of June 2015. During the first six months of the year it averaged JPY 724/kg, down 1% on that of the same period last year.

Markets
In the month analysed, imports of frozen bigeye reached 5,376 tonnes, worth JPY 3,856 million, down 16% in volume and 17% in value on those of the previous month and they were up 1% in volume and similar in value to those of June 2015.

During the period, imports totaled 39,863 tonnes worth JPY 28,875 million, up 9% in volume and 7% in value on those of the same period during the previous year.
Taiwan contributed 49% (19,774 tonnes) and the Chinese Republic sent 26% (10,469 tonnes) of imports of the period.

2. EUROPE
2.1 European Union
Landed volumes
Spain
On Mercabarna, during week 33, the most important increases were those in fresh tuna, frozen whole tope shark and frozen tope shark slices. The most important drop was that in fresh head-on albacore.
On the wholesale market of Mercamadrid, during week 33, supplies of shortfin mako and headless albacore declined. Those of the rest of species increased. The most significant rise was that in headless albacore.

France
At French ports, during week 33, volumes of northern albacore increased by 96 tonnes, compared with the previous week. The main ports were Lorient, Le Guilvinec and Les Sables D''olonne.

Italy
At Italian ports, during week 33, volumes of the all species analysed increased. The most significant rises were those in bullet tuna and swordfish. Aci Trezza was the main port of these landed volumes.

Prices
Prices of skipjack on Bangkok remained at USD 1,400/t.
Spain
The price of yellowfin stayed at EUR 2,550/t EXW Spain. The price of skipjack > 1.8 kg remained at EUR 1,360/t EXW Spain.
As regards squaliform species, prices of swordfish were the same.

On Mercabarna, during week 33, prices of most tunid and squaliform species declined. The most significant drops were those in fresh southern albacore, fresh swordfish, fresh tope shark, fresh tuna, frozen swordfish and fresh shortfin mako.
Prices of shortfin mako increased on Mercamadrid, during week 33, due to a drop in supplies. Those of albacore, swordfish and blue shark declined. The last two were due to the rise in supplies.

The average price of northern albacore volumes was up EUR 0.31/kg at French ports, due to a higher demand.

Italy
On Italian first-sale markets, the average prices of Atlantic albacore, bullet tuna and picked dogfish declined due to the rise in supplies. That of swordfish increased due to the higher demand.
