This report focuses on catch volumes of tuna, shark and swordfish in the European Union and American waters. It also highlights prices, inventories, markets, imports and exports of species detailed in the following index.

1.1 European Union
Landed volumes
Spain
On Mercabarna, incoming volumes of tunid and squaliform species increased during week 41. The most significant increases were those in fresh tuna, fresh shortfin mako and northern albacore.
Supplies of tunid and squaliform species increased on Mercamadrid, as in the case of swordfish and shortfin mako. Those of albacore declined.

France
Volumes of northern albacore landed at French ports rose by 56 tonnes during week 41, compared with the previous one. The main ports were Boulogne/Mer, Lorient and Le Guilvinec.

Italy
During week 41, volumes landed at Italian ports declined in the case of picked dogfish by 96 tonnes. Those of the rest of species increased.

Prices
Prices of skipjack on Bangkok remained at USD 1,450/kg.
Spain
The prices of yellowfin for the canning industry remained at EUR 2,300/t EXW Spain. The price of skipjack > 1.8-3.4 kg remained at EUR 1,250/t EXW Spain. Regarding swordfish, the prices remained the same as those of the previous week.

On Marcabarna, during week 41, the most important drops were registered in volumes of fresh tuna, fresh albacore, fresh shortfin mako. The most important rises were those in fresh and frozen swordfish.
On Mercamadrid, during week 41, prices of swordfish rose due to lower supplies and those of shortfin mako declined because of a rise in supplies.

2. NORTH AMERICA
2.1 United States
Swordfish (Xiphias gladius)
Prices
The average CIF price of headless and/or fresh gutted swordfish (HS 0302670090, former 0302692049) at US Customs in August was USD 8,942/t. This figure is down 7% on that of the previous month and 11% on that of August 2015. During the first eight months the average was USD 9,451, up 1% on those of the same period in 2015.

Markets
In August, US imports of fresh swordfish reached 881 tonnes, worth USD 7,878,000 CIF declared at Customs.
These figures show a drop of 10% in volume and 7% in value on those of the previous month and they are down 10% in volume and 9% in value on those of August 2015.

In the year, imports reported 5,305 tonnes and USD 50,140,000, up 6% in volume and 7% in value on those of 2014.
The main suppliers of fresh headless and/or gutted swordfish during the period were Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rica and Canada, with 1055, 753, 705 and 533 tonnes respectively.
