This report focuses on catch volumes of tuna, shark and swordfish in Japanese and Spanish waters. It also highlights prices, inventories, markets, imports and exports of species detailed in the following index.

1. ASIA

1.1 Japan

Skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis)
Albacore (Thunnus alalunga)
Yellowfin (Thunnus albacares)
Bluefin tuna (Thunnus Thynnus)
Bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus)

Markets

Total imports of fresh and frozen tuna reached about 14,391 tonnes in November, with a value of JPY 8,936 million at Japanese Customs. These figures are down 29% in volume and 33% in value on those of October and compared with those of November 2013, the volume is down 10% and the value is down 4%.

Imports of fresh tuna during the month reached 1,669 tonnes with a value of JPY 1,858 million at Japanese Customs, down 9% in volume and 16% in value on those of the previous month, and down 15% in volume and 6% in value on those of November 2013.

As regards frozen tuna, imports during the month reported 12,721 tonnes, worth JPY 7,077 million at Japanese Customs.

These figures are down 31% in volume and 36% in value on those of the previous month and compared with those of November 2013, the volume is down 10% and the value is down 4%.

2. EUROPE

2.1 Spain

Landed volumes

Spain

Incoming volumes on Mercamadrid increased by 207 tonnes in 2014. Those of frozen albacore, frozen shortfin mako, frozen blue shark, fresh albacore and fresh swordfish increased. The volumes of frozen swordfish, frozen shortfin mako and frozen blue shark declined.

Italy

At Italian ports, volumes of tunid and squaliforms species increased in all species, except for picked dogfish, in the first week of 2015, compared with week 52. The most important volumes were landed at the port of Aci Trezza.

Prices

Prices of skipjack on the market of Bangkok declined to USD 1,510/t.

Prices of yellowfin remained in all markets. On Manta it was at EUR 1,700/t. Catch volumes of the Indian ocean remained at USD 2,000/t and on Abidjan they stayed at EUR 2,030/t.

Spain

In Spain prices of skipjack stayed at EUR 1,450/t CFR Spain and those of yellowfin at EUR 2,600/t CFR Spain.

On Mercamadrid, in 2014, the average price of fresh albacore and fresh blue shark declined. Those of fresh shortfin mako and swordfish increased. Those for the rest of the species remained stable.

On Italian first-sale markets there have been remarkable ups in the prices of the species analysed.
