The company was named after the adventurous and meticulous Daniel Solander. He is best known for his work with Joseph Banks on Captain Cook's first Pacific Voyage. Many Pacific fish and plant species were named by Banks and Solander.

Solander Fiji is one of the largest catchers and processors of Albacore Tuna in the Pacific, producing approximately 2000 tonnes per annum in Fiji waters.
Solander has a 25-year history in Small Ship Management, employing or contracting over 400 seafarers, at one time, securing a personnel base almost unequalled in the Central South Pacific region.
Solander operates a deep sea fishing vessel based out of Port Timaru.
